I STARTED A COFFEE COMPANY

Most of the work I offer to the world involves words, ideas, or thoughts. That usually comes through a video or film, a talk, or a podcast. And whenever I'm making something, I always run my life's work through two questions: “does this create beauty?” and “does this create belonging?”

For a while now, I’ve been wanting to create a actual space that would answer these two questions.

And I also really, really love coffee.

That's how Heretic Coffee Co. was born.

The word Heretic is means “to challenge the institution of something.” For me, coffee isn’t just about consumption, it’s also about community. It’s a form of communion, a iteration of breaking bread. We want to know all of your names, your typical orders, and a quick update on how your family is doing. This is why we’ll never have a drive-thru.

Also, the logo is a riff on the “wolf in sheep clothing” verse. Because sometimes, people see you as the wolf when you choose to believe in something differently than the rest.

This season was a busy, chaotic, long-nights-designing-and-dreaming-and-recipie-building-and-coffee drinking. It’s also been one of the most joy-filled moments of being a maker. I am beyond grateful that I get to spend my life making things for the world. If it’s your type of thing, you can pick up a bag and a tee at www.hereticcoffee.com or come join us at our shop at 5120 SE 28th Ave.

Enjoy these pictures that my friend Jesse took on an old camera he found at his Grandmas house.
